Valentine’s Day is coming up and for some the day may end-or begin- with some wrestling around in the sheets. For expectant couples this may not be as easy or as desired as it once was. Here of some things to keep in mind if you or your partner is pregnant and you want to get some action this Valentine’s Day.
Use Lube.
Hormones in pregnancy can make a mom much more dry than her pre-pregnancy self. Using lubrication, such as one with Silicone can make penetration more pleasurable.
Don’t underestimate the power of foreplay.
Along the same lines as above, an expectant mom may have quite a bit less natural juices flowing as she did before getting pregnant. Hormones may also interfere with her desire to have sex or how quickly she becomes aroused. Partners need to take their time with an expectant mom to allow her to catch up. This may not necessarily be the time for quickies.
Be creative with positions.
Once the baby belly has grown to a certain size, or if there is discomfort during penetration, there may be a need to try different positions. A position with mom on top can allow to have belly free and gives mom control over the depth of penetration. Side-lying is also a great one to allow mom and dad to be VERY close and keeping belly out of the way. Hands and knees can serve a double purpose in the third trimester by also helping take some weight of moms pelvis and back. Want to still be able to do a position on your back? Try lying at the edge of the bed and have your partner stand beside it.
Be sensitive to your partners desire…or not.
This goes for both partners here.
For moms to be the hormones may have you wanting it all the time or not feeling like it at all. There may also be some body image things happening here too. Remember that most men have a primal attraction to a pregnant body :). Be aware that there are also some men who feel uncomfortable with the thought of sex with their baby inside you. Start slow and build your way up to full penetration.
For dads to be, YOU NEED TO TELL HER HOW SEXY SHE IS, however, you want to make sure this is at appropriate times. Tell her how amazing it is that she is growing your baby inside her. You also need to know that YOUR BABY WONT GET HURT DURING SEX AND WONT KNOW THAT ITS PARENTS ARE GETTING IT ON.
Explore other ways to be intimate other than just intercourse.
There are MANY ways to connect with your partner that do not have to include intercourse. Cuddling on the couch, going on a date, giving a massage, spooning, caressing each other and oral sex are all things you can explore more in pregnancy. This is a really great idea since after the birth of your baby it may be awhile before you both feel comfortable with intercourse again. During this time it is still important to connect with each other and not just become room mates.
With all of the above suggestions we am wishing you a very satisfying Valentine’s day with your special Valentine.
